Geoffrey the Giraffe

Jun 3, 2001

I have had an ongoing relationship with my local Toys’R’Us, doing various appearances for them, showing off my sculptures in-store. I’ve built a few things for them, including my globe and Pikachu sculptures. They made a request for me to build a full size version of Geoffrey the Giraffe, their mascot, and not wanting to back down from a challenge, I decided to go for it.

I worked for about 6 weeks on this sculpture. The design was based off an image that I had scanned in from a piece of corporate letterhead. That was all I had to go along with. I built it so that I can relatively easily disassemble it and move it to the store. The head is removeable, as are the arms. The torso splits off the legs, and each leg also separates. As for size, it stands 5 foot 6 inches tall, or 175 rows. From fingertip to fingertip it’s 4 foot 10 inches, or 184 bricks.  It is 100% Lego, with no non-Lego reinforcement inside.
