Classic Space Mineral Explorer

Nov 11, 2000

This model was built for Todd Lehman’s Classic Space Building Contest. It is a Category 5 Utility Vehicle, with 326 pieces. It was designed to be of the same product family as the 6950 Mobile Rocket Launcher. Built on an elongated and modified 6950 chassis and sporting bigger tires and a more protective cockpit, the Mineral Explorer is designed to traverse rough terrain in search of minerals and ores. When it detects some, it dispaches a remote controlled rover to collect the samples and place them in a pair of storage bins on either side of the chassis. The arms of the rover enable it to dig deep for ore samples and place them into the high chassis of the main vehicle.

There are two alternate models: A fighter/transport that carries a small rover, and a vehicle carrier that carries a rover and a small spacecraft.
